According to Mega Millions, Friday's prize would be the sixth highest in history, behind a $1.05 billion Michigan ticket from 2021.
Friday's drawing was the 29th since April 18's New York jackpot win.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $1.537 billion won in South Carolina in 2018.
