Social Media Explodes After ‘American Idol’ Names Top 8: ‘Not Watching Anymore’

After “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest announced that independent singer-songwriter KAYKO ,,,

and country musician Mia Matthews did not progress to the Top 8, fans stormed social media.

On April 28, 2024, all 10 Top 10 finalists sang a hit song from their birth year with mentor Shania Twain.

All the contestants received good marks from Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, however two were sent home.

After the show, KAYKO divided followers on social media, with some devastated to see him go and vowing to boycott the show, while others were relieved.

Many people were upset when Emmy Russell, who was in the bottom three again, advanced instead of Matthews or KAYKO.

Soon after the live show, KAYKO and Matthews uploaded fan messages.

KAYKO, born in 2000, topped early “American Idol” rounds with his sensitive songs.

In recent episodes, he's had to sing other singers' songs and has rocked out with eyeliner and black fingernails.

After working with Twain, he switched from Britney Spears at the last minute to Wheatus' “Teenage Dirtbag” on April 28.
