Ombré Nails Are On The Rise For Summer

The no-mani mani, which has a sheer, natural foundation that transitions into a whiter white tip, makes modest use of the ombré technique, but the summer months will require something more adventurous and colourful.

Even manicurist Georgia Rae, who like to keep her nails classic and natural, admits that summer is the perfect time to have a little fun.

"I'd suggest playing with pastel shades such as lilac or baby blue, or even neon if you're feeling more adventurous," she said.

"The great thing about this design is, depending on application, it can be a subtle pop of colour or a bold statement." Ombre nails are the solution.

If neon or fluorescent colours are not your thing, Rae predicts that soft pastels applied as sheer washes of colour will be the summer's favourite choice.

"I like lightly transparent lilacs and pinks, which are the perfect base shades for any nail designs," she said.

There is additional benefit to this summer-ready manicure. "Where the tip shade is blended down the nail, it almost acts as a concealer for any discoloration or unevenness on the free edge of the nail, so it's flattering on everyone," Rae said.

The appearance works especially well with long nails, so don't be discouraged if yours don't fall into this category.

"An oval or almond nail shape works really well with an ombré design, as it elongates the fingers," Rae said.

We're ready to give it a shot, even if the weather doesn't shout "summer" yet.
