NBA Trade Idea Sends Blazers' Jerami Grant to the Raptors

The Portland Trail Blazers need to retool their roster, which may include parting ways with some of their larger contracts.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed a trade that would send Jerami Grant to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Bruce Brown, a 2028 first-round pick swap, and a 2027 second-round draft pick.

Grant's deal is onerous (it expires in 2027-28, with a $36.4 million player option)

but he has averaged 20.7 points and shot 40.2 percent from deep in his two seasons in Portland.

For Portland, this is almost completely about getting out of the Grant contract, which was inked prior to last summer's Damian Lillard trade.

This transaction accomplishes that while also somewhat enhancing the team's draft prospects and adding another veteran in Brown, whom it might trade before February.

The longer the Blazers keep Grant under contract, and the older he becomes, the more difficult it will be for Portland to move him.

While the Blazers admire his contributions as a player and veteran, his huge deal may be preventing the team from going forward.
