MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES' JA MORANT NOT LIABLE IN ASSAULT CASE AS PLAINTIFF'S ATTORNEYS WITHDRAW, COMPLICATING LEGAL BATTLE

The legal drama surrounding Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant continues to unravel, as counsel for the plaintiff, Joshua Holloway, have been allowed to withdraw their representation.

During a hearing on May 3, Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Carol Chumney allowed the motion of attorneys Rebecca Adelman and Leslie Ballin to withdraw. According to Local Memphis, the judgement gives Holloway, the kid who accuses Morant of abuse, only 30 days to seek new legal representation.

On April 19, Holloway's legal team submitted a move to withdraw, citing a dispute with the plaintiff that interfered with their "independent professional judgement."

The nature of the conflict was not stated in court filings. With a trial scheduled to begin in April now postponed indefinitely, the young Holloway must swiftly obtain substitute representation or risk representing himself in the proceedings, according to a WREG story.

This legal battle began in July 2022, when Holloway claimed Morant and Morant's buddy Davonte Pack hit him during a pickup basketball game at Morant's house.

Morant, who has never faced criminal charges in connection with this incident, admitted to hitting Holloway when he was 17, but claimed it was in self-defense. In April, a court found that Morant was not responsible for the altercation under Tennessee's self-defense immunity statute.

Holloway's family appears eager to see the matter through even when their attorney withdraws. Myca Clay, Holloway's mother, stated unequivocally, "I'm just trying to get justice for my son."

I'm not willing to settle the case," she told Local Memphis. As the judicial process continues, this passionate disagreement appears far from over, with Morant's legal team standing by the judge's verdict and Holloway's side vehemently seeking fresh channels to pursue their claims of justice.
